HSBC is looking to hire some folks for Infor, a company that makes business software. They need Automation Test Engineers – basically software engineers who can write programs to test the software Infor builds. This could be a good gig for recent college graduates or students about to finish their degrees.

Beforehand

– Learn about the company. Understand what they do, what they care about, all that. See what skills and stuff are needed for the actual job.

– Practice answering common questions like tell me about yourself and what are your strengths and weaknesses? Have real-life stories ready to go.

– Prepare some good questions to ask about the job, the team, training programs

  4. Know your way around performance testing – load, stress, peak, volume etc. JMeter skills strongly preferred.
  5. Get software development and CI/CD stuff.
  6. Be able to write about technical things like defects clearly and simply.
  7. Can use GitHub no problem.
  8. Know SQL and ETL testing.
  9. Be an excellent communicator. Detail-oriented. Be able to analyze things. Take ownership of your work.

  • Fully own and keep up a robust testing environment, including test databases and systems
  • Think up test plans to cover requirements, make high-level test ideas that match the plan, and turn those into detailed test cases

  • Automate tests for infrastructure and find automation solutions
  • Join agile project squads to build quality into development early on
  • Look after test databases and environments
  • Come up with testing approaches for requirements, big test concepts that work with those, and detailed test cases
  • Hold sessions on best practices with the QA crew
  • Partner with project folks on test timelines
